Question: Do you think there just might be some relevant tie between the in-laws and the meaning behind tying loud, clanky, obnoxious cans to the back of the wedding car?

I think by common observation it should be a daddy-back ride. You can ride on people besides daddies, sure, but that appears to be the default.
