When Bergman passed away there was a movie cycle on his memory and they screened it, sadly I arrived late since it wasn't in my city and I arrived for the final two hours of Fanny and Alexander.


The Buñuel cycle the week after was really good, though

I'll be honest, I am not a Bergman devotee, but The Seventh Seal fully deserves it's place on the "films to see before you die" list.

I had forgotten how much humour was in it, though. The character of the squire is superb, with his cynical outlook and his sense of humour.

And playing chess against Death, now that's Gothic (with a capital G!)

The Seventh Seal was one of the first DVD's I ever bought. I love it more than Jesus.

He claims to, but I think he's just exaggerating, tbh...

Woody Allen also wrote a parody with a middle-age Jewish rug salesman from New Jersey as a protagonist and the game was Rummy (I think)

It is surely one of the most parodied of films. I suppose that is a measure of its success.

The only Seventh Seal movie I have seen was the one with a pregnant Demi Moore.

... I had to act out a scene from that back in a Highschool drama class.... the Rummy scene.
