| Just about to start 'Memoirs of a Geisha' tonight. I went through the Telegraph's Top 100 Books and was pleasantly surprised to find that there were only 12 I hadn't read and this was one of them, although I have seen the film and loved it. | |

Isn't that novel about a house that is some sort of maze through a story within a story within a story told through footnotes that goes around the very same house

| Just finished reading "Valiant" and "Tithe" by Holly Black. Wonderful books, they're the first fantasy books I've read in a long time that didn't have a sickeningly predictable plot. I have to get them back to my friend so I can borrow the last book. | |

| Any chance of a short synopsis?
I could do with something light to read at the moment. I am ploughing through a book about the decryption techniques used at Bletchley Park, and it is making my brain ache at times!

| "Empire of Ivory" by Naomi Novak, the fourth and I believe final part of the Temeraire series.
And I am still slowly making my way through a book about the Colossus and the code-breaking techniques used at Bletchley Park. I can't remember when I last took so long to read a book, but it is fairly heavy going at times, and I still won't pretend to understand all the subtleties of the statistical code-breaking methods used.

| I'm on the third book of the Dante Valentine series by Lilith Saintcrow. It's interesting- intermixing cyberpunk and fantasy involving demons and necromancers and the sort.
I've been on a huge Terry Pratchett kick for awhile. Absolutely love his Disk World collection. I only have 10 more of his Disc World books to hunt down to have read them all.

But is quite hard to find those books here, so I must charge them on a special bookstore. Right now I don't know weather to read Soul Music or Witches Abroad

| I LOVE the ones centered on Death and Soul Music was actually a lot more entertaining in my opinion so I'd go with that =) Also, with Witches Abroad you have to read Lords and Ladies afterwards to get the continuing story on that arc. | |

| Most of what I have read are centered on Death (the Reaper Man was the last one I read and Mort was the first one I read) but I haven't read anything of the "Witches" books, so I was kinda curious...
But is better to follow my heart (and the popular vote) and read Soul Music!

I have (but haven't read yet) The Thief of Time, A Hat Full of Sky, Witches Abroad and Soul Music if my memory is not mistaken

| If possible, you should try to read "Wee Free Men" before you read "A Hat Full Of Sky" as the Tiffany Aching stories do follow on from each other more than most of Pratchett's books. | |

| Carpe Jugulum and The Truth both feature vampires and are very funny.
I would go with Soul Music too.
Imp selected a small rock and flicked it with his finger. It went bop. A smaller one went bing.
"What do you do with them?" he said.
"I bang them together."
"And then what?"
"What do you mean, 'And then what?'"
"What do you do after you've banged them together?"
"I bang them together again," said Lias, one of nature's drummers.

I read that somewhere and that's why I haven't read it. I shall try to find Wee Free Men... And I also have Carpe Jugulum, I knew I was forgetting one...

| Still reading Dune, stopped a bit during my week at Caracas thinking to read The President by Miguel Ángel Asturias but I found Aunt Julia and The Scriptwriter by Mario Vargas Llosa, about the real life married of the novelist with his mother's sister-in-law and the descend to madness of Pedro Camacho's soap operas (one of the secondary characters who the protagonist is fascinated, an odd little man who was hired for the radio soap operas). One chapter is dedicated to show the real life events of Mario and the aunt Julia while the other is one of the many radio soap operas, as the novel progresses, the characters of the soap operas start mixing up each other (a rough docks detective appears as a Mother Superior, the incestuous child of a marriage appears as a boy in once and as an Orphan girl in the other...) at the end Pedro Camacho resolves this by killing all his characters at least twice (one of them was killed four times) while the ratings goes up to know what the hell is going on... | |
