Is someone joking here?

Ok, what, pray tell, is a gothic garden? One with a lot of statuary? Tons of red flowers? blackorchids (no pun intended)? Spooky looking greenery?

What, exactly is your definition of a gothic garden?

My defination of a gothic garden is a garden overgrown with ivy, it has secret areas which you have to find amongst the over grown folige. It must have old garden ornaments covered in moss, an old pond with a sad looking statue in it. Red roses scramberling through the ivy.

It sounds an awaful lot like the garden we have now Very Happy

That sounds lovely. I, too, have around the same idea of what gothic gardens are. I suppose something like a beautiful cemetary only encased by willow trees, hanging moss, a few gothic stone faces/fountains/ or stepping stones. With, perhaps some cloves sprinkled about just to give a wonderful scent.

This site has some nice ideas, as does this article. Personally I'd love a garden like this. But I suspect that 'random unkempt look' is similar to 'natural makeup' and 'bed hair'. It looks like it happened in five minutes completely by accident, but in reality it takes hours and hours of careful preparation each and every day.

Presenting:

The Bella Lugosi Lily:

The Superstition Iris (which is in my garden):

The Halloween Pansy (which has been in my garden):

The Black Pearl Cala Lilly:

It's quite possible to make a garden look goth. There are plenty of sites on the subject.
